About

The Maine State Chapter of IAAO celebrated their 40th anniversary during 2018! The chapter was first established in 1978 by then Secretary Mike Austin. In honor of Mike’s memory, we offer a scholarship annually in his name, to award a $500 scholarship, to a paid member, to be drawn at the annual meeting, must be present to win, and must be used on training within Maine, certified by MRS as education credits.

We continue to thrive with a healthy membership and full Board of Directors. We meet as a Chapter four times a year, with full days of educational opportunities. Our updated Maine Chapter IAAO By-Laws can be found here. Like Massachusetts, the State of Maine’s taxing jurisdictions are governed by municipalities, not counties, although we also have 18 county seats.

Our purposes is to educate the public on the importance of work performed by assessing officers and to improve the standards of present assessment practice; to elevate the standards of personal requirements in assessment offices; to work for justice, equity, and uniformity within the tax structure and the distribution of the same.
